FORT-COULONGE – On March 12, the Filles d’Isabelle, chapter 1293, presented its 3rd annual fashion show at the St-Pierre Parish Hall to a sold out crowd of 200 women. Mona Davis emceed most of the event that featured 27 women between the ages of 15 and 74 years old modelling a total of 44 changes of spring fashions from the Shawville / Clarendon stores of Boutique Gwendoline, Shawville Shoe, and Giant Tiger, as well as the Pembroke Mall stores of Ricki’s, Pennington’s, and Alia.

Fernande Lacroix has worked on all three events, crediting the volunteers for the continued success of the venues. “We had 50 this year and every one of them did a fantastic job; from the kitchen workers to those behind the scenes,” she said, noting they’ve worked on it for the past 3 months.

According to Lacroix, the nine participating sales and service kiosks gave ‘very satisfied’ ratings in and the surprise parade of five heritage costumes (left photo) to commemorate Fort-Coulonge’s 125th anniversary was “well worth the rental price. It added an elegant touch,” she said, also thanking the numerous contributors of the many draws throughout the evening. Previous years have featured a bridal party, young children’s clothing, and a belly dancer.
Boutique Gwendoline owner, Katharine Summer-field, stepped up to the microphone and gave detailed descriptions of her showing of casual wear and special occasion outfits as the models walked the 32-foot runway. “Coral is this year’s hot new colour,” said Summerfield, who had just returned from Toronto where she was on a professional buying trip for fall fashions.

Shoes and handbags from Shawville Shoes complemented all of the Boutiquie’s attire, as well as colour-accented costume jewellery, available at both stores, which are located on Main Street, Shawville (right photo). Giant Tiger, on Highway 148, presented 20 head-to-toe outfits.

In between modelling several outfits, Erin Davis gave rousing renditions of Tina Turner’s ‘Proud Mary’ and Janis Joplin’s ‘Piece of my heart’. Marie-Claire Lafontaine and Michele Leblanc also entertained and modelled.
